So many problems with Minister François-Philippe Champagne's scapegoating of the Flipper Zero, as I am sure he is well aware.Most obviously, the Flipper Zero cannot be used to steal a car, so banning it will accomplish nothing in that regard.Even if it could, it's hard to imagine someone willing to break the law to engage in motor vehicle theft being meaningfully deterred by an import ban.But perhaps most importantly, to the extent that there are vulnerabilities allowing modern vehicles to be hijacked with hacking devices, the problem is in the vehicles, and the hacking devices (in the hands of security researchers) are the tools by which that problem gets solved. How many times does history need to prove this?It's exasperating that we're still exhuming this old chestnut from the pages of Phrack Magazine in 2024, and supremely ironic that the champion of this regressive and unscientific non-solution has "innovation" and "science" in his title.

How would you spin digital security… to make it fun and interactive? 🔑 We created a “reverse escape room” tour and took the Gemalto Armored Vehicle on the road. 🎩 What started as an in-booth experience at Black Hat Convention in Vegas turned into a custom created Armored Vehicle mobile tour with stops in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Seattle.
