What is the aisle of shame at Aldi? ›

Aldi's 'aisle of shame' is a middle row of goodies that have nothing to do with groceries. Shoppers are huge fans of it. Aldi Finds aisle, or what its superfans call the "Aisle of shame."

Aldi said it expects that about 50 stores will begin the conversion process in the latter half of 2024, with the majority of them reopening as Aldi in 2025. “Our growth is fueled by our customers, and they are asking for more Aldi stores in their neighborhoods nationwide,” CEO Jason Hart said in the statement.

The report found that fruits sold in Aldi are grown under inhumane working conditions, with migrant workers commonly being underpaid and overworked, plus cases of trade union repression, sexual exploitation, inadequate protection against pesticides and other labour rights violations.

In Austria and Slovenia, Aldi operates stores under the Hofer brand. Aldi Nord also owns the Trader Joe's grocery chain in the United States which operates separately from the group. Aldi Süd owns the Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarket chains in the southern United States.

There are no checkout lines, cashiers, or scanners. Instead, customers can simply use their credit or debit card, or for a more streamlined experience, download the Grabango app in advance to pay via a QR code.

Within the United States, Aldi sources its products both domestically and from abroad. Aldi's products are made in China, the United Kingdom, and Germany, among others. However, it should be fairly easy to determine which products are made in the United States and which are imported internationally.

California-based Trader Joe's brands itself as a “national chain of neighborhood grocery stores.” But the grocery chain known for its private label goods and competitive prices is owned by the same German family that founded another well-known grocery store: Aldi.

In the context of Aldi, the site explains, “the 'shame' seems to revolve around the joke that people go to Aldi intending to get bread and milk, but they end up shamefully drifting into the middle aisle and purchasing things they may not need, from teal cabinets to pressure cookers.”

Wednesdays and Sundays are Best
